Settlement.
On Sunday, my body was seamlessly transported to an island where a lizard juggled not only double digits but also flaming balls. His tale was green and covered in scales but moved just as his facial expressions changed. Battle horses were as nimble as fabric tumbling in a dryer but their high pitch screams radiated louder than the waves hitting the shore.
My mind was lost in the beauty of dedication and passion. At the "Amaluna" Cirque de Soleil show, I watched dancers and acrobats from all over the world performing. Truly performing. It was passion when the ballerina had her solo. Her face changed with the music to add emotion, emotion which she was feeling. Every muscle in her foot flexed as she pointed her toes and the nude feet pads made it that much easier to watch.
The pirates that invaded the island were toned but they were human. A few had tattoos along their bodies --one of bamboo the other of miscellaneous symbols. All of the performers were human and the island was simply great sound systems and decorations. For real pirates never make eye contact with the crowd --no matter how big the audience member's glasses are.
Settling to understanding, we are all only human. As the barnacle called love seems to find its way to the bottom of the ocean, it settled to little contact and few messages but the mutual understanding of admiration. I am content simply seeing him as his presence and all the fond memories we have together float to the surface when he smiles at me. Still, it seems to sting knowing we have been reduced to "lunch?" "yeah" "I'll text you" and an apple in between.
With each settlement comes an explosion soon after. My parents settled into being together but after almost ten years of marriage, my father exploded with a cheating scandal. No longer was just believing in the image enough. My sunshine's parents seemed to have exploded too. After settling together with three kids for ten years, everything seemed to settle putting pressure on the support causing it to explode. Another divorce in the books because everything finally settled.
As the light dimmed over the stage, my father and I crawled over a few seats and ran down the stairs out of the tent before anyone could follow. Once in the parking lot, we ran. Even with heels in my hands, black pavement dust sticking to my feet, and skirt pulling itself off my body, I never let the fact settle that this was temporary.
"We've agreed on a settlement, your honor."

"What is your agreement?"
"Happiness."
