631|Get Rich Quick

What's a body but 23 proteins? Taxes are coming up. Taxes blow when you don't expect to pay more money on top of the money you watch leave your paycheck. I was so worried when my mom told me that I might have to pay additional state taxes --I'm a student and have 25% of my check taken out already.  There are ways to write off expenses like for business or charity. There are also forms like the 1090T form that prevents broke college kids like me from becoming even broker. The new tax bill past at the end of 2017 is something of debate. I am all for lower taxes. If I can work my shift and have enough money for groceries --I am a happy clam. I work three jobs --Learning Assistant, Teaching Assistant, and restaurant employee. All of my jobs combined, I still have about $10,000 in credit card debt already. The current tax bill proposed calls for taxes cuts and decreased interest rates to encourage more spending. Our hope is to help the weak economy climb out of its hole. ...

15|Dark Matter

"I pray to god I go to heaven when I overdose." I like to stay away from the news not because I believe a life of ignorance is blissful; but, rather, our need to quantify and categorize doesn't leave room for grey matter. Currently, there has been a lot in the news about terrorism and changes in criminal behaviors. I want to bring up a few instances before I begin to draw parallels.  People become offended when white individuals are identified as terrorists. There is a much greater population of minority incarceration. Violent crimes by minorities is decreasing while violent crimes by whites is increasing.  More whites are likely to be using any type of illegal drug.  The protest in Israel this week has injured hundreds. "Angels lose their wings when they fall from heaven." It is very easy to see hatred for things that are different --they can be uncomfortable, scary, and challenging. When we are kids, we try a lot of new things and honestly,...

128|When Virgo Met Ross

"You look good, you look like Carrie Bradshaw on that Sex in the City shit." I remember being a kid and watching Sex in the City with my mom and not always understanding what was happening. I also remember my mom was very interested in zodiac signs; so, when we would watch Sex in the City and the girls would bring up the zodiac signs, I was all game.  Virgo is the zodiac sign that comes directly after mine, the lady. The Virgo can be critical and judgemental, even a perfectionist. The Virgo is also always willing to help others and get the job done. So, like most zodiac signs, this sign is perfect with minor flaws. There are a few more interesting things that I would like to point out. The Virgo has Mercury as its ruling planet. This means that, because of the rapid gravitational changes of this planet, people born with Mercurcy as their governing planet are able to adapt to situations or take control of chaos. The Virgo also has the second largest constellation. And, ...

Whatever| Less than Human

Image
Do I have have to be drunk to be honest? My behavior doesn't change with alcohol, just my attitude.  I know a lot about Pluto and trash islands but I still don't understand basic human interactions. What do you want from me? There are a lot of things that come into my mind when thinking about being human. There are a lot of things I try my hardest not to address: things that hurt, things that are awkward, things that are uncomfortable, things that you can't face the mirror to admit. One of those things include finally feeling like enough.  I'll cut this short right here, for those of you who would like to help yourself to my tricks in being the best me I can be, they can be found at the bottom of this post.  Like right now, I want to slow down and emphasize how long it took for the word "enough" to leave my thoughts. Millenials have this issue... We have been told we can do anything, that we are great in every way.. which is awesome, I am coc...

"Why are you whispering?" To say the least, a lot has happened in a little time. But for those of you who know me, you'll find my title and previous phrase uncharacteristic. Because what are time and color but human defintions of a perceived, unarguable truths? It's like asking me for you to define life.  "You tricked me into smelling your eucalyptus." I find nothing true but passion. And did you know that there are pools in Indonesia of golden jellyfish that sting so softly you can swim through them? Jellyfish in Japan, on the other hand, have a diameter of seven feet and clog fishing lines. Jellyfish are magical for the sense that they are nothing more that plastic bags --majestic, free-flowing, luxury department store plastic bag. Jellyfish have been spotted swimming in the Mosque of Istanbul after heavy rains and flooding recently. Jellyfish, peach blossom jellyfish, are also considered endangered. They live in scattered fresh water populati...

Los Dos Compadres: The Storm

Image
When the world seemed to riot in silent unison and the skies parted ways I believed something would change When our ground began to crumble underneath our seats and the inferno peaked  I believed something would change Nothing did Nothing ever does Finally, I thought a system would be in place where the rules are made by the ruled and we could represent our ideas Finally, I thought those mindless waves of miniatures would have a path set and we would no longer have to watch Maybe, just maybe those above us smiled for a split second and pandora finally released hope Maybe, just maybe our chains cracked from the rumbling and the clouds finally released their moisture But somehow, I think someone heard me and something did change And then, raging tears flooded, suffocated our throats and wailed while we withered And then, explosive plumes puffed, drowned our lungs and smoked our remaining ashes It started with a push, a paddle th...

39|Where's Waldo?

Image
"I don't see Waldo inside." "That's because Waldo just parked." I never fit in. Fit in clothes, shoes, school, parties, or a whole lot of much. So, when sharing my dietary habits and whether or not I consumed honey --more or less, me bluntly stating I do not consume honey --I found out that I do not fit in with the surrounding vegan populous.  My initial argument for not eating honey was that it is just as unsustainable as eating meat because the bee population is declining. This did not stick long. Bees do not produce an excess of natural gas and instead pollinate a variety of plants. As a matter of fact, different species of bees make up 61% of all plant pollinators with almost half of that coming from honeybees alone.  Woah, so, wouldn't it make sense to demand more honey to encourage bee farms? Same question always stands with meat, if my honey is sustainably sourced and cruelty free, is it still safe honey? To this, I started to rambl...
