"Why are you whispering?"
To say the least, a lot has happened in a little time. But for those of you who know me, you'll find my title and previous phrase uncharacteristic. Because what are time and color but human defintions of a perceived, unarguable truths? It's like asking me for you to define life.
"You tricked me into smelling your eucalyptus."
I find nothing true but passion. And did you know that there are pools in Indonesia of golden jellyfish that sting so softly you can swim through them? Jellyfish in Japan, on the other hand, have a diameter of seven feet and clog fishing lines. Jellyfish are magical for the sense that they are nothing more that plastic bags --majestic, free-flowing, luxury department store plastic bag. Jellyfish have been spotted swimming in the Mosque of Istanbul after heavy rains and flooding recently. Jellyfish, peach blossom jellyfish, are also considered endangered. They live in scattered fresh water populations in the US but where originally found in China. Jellyfish are also everywhere along the coasts of Japan and China but are now being converted into a sustainable snack in the form of chips.
"Well, now you have me smoking your weeds,"
Jellyfish are pretty content with any environment. Jellyfish are absolutely peculiar because in reality, they're just plankton, inflated with water. I sometimes wonder if that's what karma looks like. But, then I remember they can live in environments filled with nitrogen, they enjoy currents to ensure movement, and are perfectly content with dark, warm, and suffocating. So, maybe I am too big of a Dante fan but, doesn't this sound like the perfect ring of hell?
"I dont know what happened to me"
There is something more fascinating about jellyfish. Jellyfish are like algae and can occur in blooms during increased temperature seasons. This occurence is wrecking havoc in Israel as these gelatinous bodies clog the cooling systems of the generators responsible for city wide air conditioning. With climate change, jellyfish will flourish for a few reasons.
"But as soon as it hit me, I was fucking free."
Warmer weather increases the rate of reproduction as well as the location for jellyfish polyps to land. Climate change and polution has been especially harmful for natural predators of jellyfish like turtles. An additional twist comes into play. Overfishing and an increased favorable habitate for reproduction causes an exponential increase in jellyfish populations while the fish populations disappear. And it gets worse. In large bodies of water like lakes and rivers, especially those in Southeast Asia, where farming and industrial runoff occurs, oxygen-dead zones are created because of the chemical concentrations. Unlike fish, jellyfish can thrive in these conditions.
"And I don't think I'll ever find my way back."
In fact, way back when, jellyfish were the predominant species of our harsh oceans. Way back when, we realistically could have had a purple earth. Archaea like halobacteria transmits purple light and absorbs green light, which is the majority of the light transmitted by the sun. Halobacteria can also survive in in low oxygen environments. These organisms can also survive and prefer high salt environments. Simple organisms like halobacteria could have also very well lived on this prehistoric earth with jellyfish.
"It's a reason to get up in the moring. It's a reason to smile."
My greatest fear is knowing that history repeats itself. The word jellyfish has appeared in this blog 20 times. The picture considing with the blog is a jellyfish tree. There are only 83 in existence and only one clustered colony of 77 trees. That is about four of my blogposts for a comparision of how few of these trees there are. The biggest problem is that none of their seedlings are able to grow. The only seedlings that have been able to germinate have been raised in botanical gardens under high humidity. The earth is simply too hot, too dry, and too dirty for these plants. Which is so sad! Because instead of a home for birds and small animals, we have oceans clogged with literal and figurative plastic bags. And the sanity behind it all? The ability to live comfortably and fill the pockets of big corporations.
"It makes tomorrow alright."
How groovy would it be to create an ocean of lava lamps as the huge bursting chunks as bloated bigotes?
